Business Cards from GDC

A quick rant, as I send out LinkedIn invitations based on the business cards I received at GDC.

1) Your business card should say who you are, what company you’re with, what you do, and where you’re located.

2) Your LinkedIn profile (and any other professional networking you choose to use) should also say the same things, and exactly the same way. If your business card says Brad, don’t put Bradley on your LinkedIn.

3) If I can’t find you in a few seconds of searching, you don’t get added to my network. I’m not going to spend a lot of time trying to hunt you down.

4) If you’re not on LinkedIn, why not? I mean, it’s not perfect, and it’ll probably be replaced with something newer and shinier, but if you’re trying to promote yourself or your company, it’s literally the least you can do.

Apologies to the few people who are in my discard pile, but you need to rethink your business cards if you want any response.

    And one more thing: unless your name is extremely unique, you’d better customize your LinkedIn tagline. I’m not going to drill through dozens of ‘Josh Smith’s to figure out which one is you.
